Sahaviriya Steel Teesside is the successor to Teesside Cast Products The acquisition agreement for Teesside Cast Products was signed on 24 February 2011 by SSI UK and Tata Steel UK. Sahaviriya Steel Teesside is a modern iron and steel making facility which sits on a coastal site located in Redcar, and situated in the North East of England. The site has an efficient plant layout and excellent infrastructure, integrated with a deep-water berth and ore terminal for easy access to imported raw materials. The Teesside iron and steel making facility, is fully integrated from raw material agglomeration, coke making, through to iron & steel making and power generation. The blast furnace at Redcar is the second largest blast furnace in Europe is linked to a modern steel making facility, which has an annual steel slab production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes. Sahaviriya Steel Teesside is a Tier 1 World steel slab producer with a proven track record of producing various advanced steel grades. Our acquisition and planned investment is a restoration and rejuvenation of the Teesside’s steel making facility and its 160 years of heritage. This 160 years of history is the history of modern steel making itself and is the longest of such in the World. The passion that the Teesside community has for the steel industry is second to none in the World, and the area is blessed with highly-skilled and hard-working workforce and experienced engineers. SSI UK’s restoration of steel making in on Teesside marks not only the return of steel making here on Teesside, but also the rise of Teesside steel in the global steel industry landscape.
