Irtysch Chemical Metallurgical Plant

Company Description

Joint-stock company "Irtysh chemical-metallurgical plant" the large producer of high purity rare metals: niobium, tantalum, molybdenum and alloys on their base.
The list of products is presented as ingots, powders, plates, rods and bars. During a fifty-year history of a plant unique technologies of high purity rare metals production were developed. The main technologies that were implemented have been developed together with the State Institute of Rare Metals "GIREDMET" (Moscow, Russia) . The industrial base of the operation includes park of electron beam furnaces with capacity from 250 up to 500 kilowatt, vacuum induction furnaces, the press and precision tool house equipment, hydrometallurgical treatment, analytical laboratory on the basis of modern devices of the assaying, etc.
Taking into account scientific and material resources, personnel of the plant is capable to solve complex tasks in the field of generation of high purity rare metals and development of production of high-tech products.
Joint-stock company "rtysh chemical-metallurgical plant"
The main office is located in Astana, in a southeast area of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Production is located in the eastern part of Kazakhstan, in 70 km from Ust-Kamenogorsk.
History
The plant has more than a semi-centennial history.
The construction of the plan started in 1955 and on September, 15 1960 the official start of plant activity was announced. For the more than 50-years history the plant has become the pioneer on territory of the USSR in production of rare metals and rare earths: niobium, tantalum, lanthanum, samarium, cerium, a neodymium, a praseodymium, etc. Today the company is focused on production high purity niobium and tantalum, development of the related applications and perfection of technologies.
The base saleable material of "Irtysh chemical-metallurgical plant" is niobium, tantalum, NiNb and FeMo.
Chemical purity of ingots and products manufactured from them, surfaces processing, the geometrical sizes will be coordinated, in each case, with requirements of a customer.
Process of generation of high purity rare metals is consists of hydrometallurgical, metallurgical and fire processes, each of which demands a profound knowledge in the field of chemistry, physics, metallurgy and other scientific areas.
The metallurgical treatment solves the problem of division of rare metals oxides in a concentrate and obtainment of high purity oxides (99, 5% ) .
There are several stages in a fire metallurgy production:
1. Reduction of oxides of metals. Process runs in vacuum induction furnaces. The basic way of reduction is aluminothermic.
2. Clearing of reducer by initial electron beam remelting with obtainment of purity of a basic element not less than 96% . The electron beam remelting runs in furnaces with a flat horizontal crystallizer. Furnaces power is at least 250 kilowatt.
3. Electron beam remelting with obtainment of finished product with purity at least 99, 9% . Process runs in furnaces with a vertically supported crystallizer. Commodity ingot of basic geometrical sizes is a result.
4. If a customer needs the quality and purity of metal above basic chemical composition, additional remelting is carried on, with the purpose of reduction of impurities to a level which meets the requirements of the customer.
Fire processes at the plant are carried out at high vacuum environment and temperatures from 2000 up to 4000 degrees centigrade.
Mechanical processing of surfaces, production of plates and rods are manufactured with the use of Knuth (Germany) precision tool house equipment.
A stage-by-stage quality inspection of production is LED by own laboratory equipped with the analytical hardware from world famous manufacturers, such as Stanford Equipment, VARIAN Chrompack, CETAC technologies.
