The project has not only filled the gap in the domestic industry, but also been a significant project of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 2013.
Methoprene is a kind of insect bionic product of juvenile hormone (JH) which can be used as an insecticide that acts as a growth regulator. It is mainly used to control insects by disrupting with insect growth and development. It can prevent normal molting, egg-laying, egg-hatching, and development from the immature phase (i.e. caterpillar) to the adult phase (i.e. moth). This prevents the insects from reproducing, which leads to eradication of the insect populations. Unlike traditional pesticide, methoprene is not easy to allow insects to develop resistance. It is low-toxic, environmentally friendly, harmless to humans and animals, less effective on natural predators and beneficial organisms as well. Methoprene has a remarkable effect on controlling pests of Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Homoptera, etc. It can be widely used for pests control in grain storage, tobacco storage, book collection, livestock faeces disposal, animal fur treatment, dyke and cave maintenance, plant growth, etc. In the 1980s, Methoprene was recommended as the main pesticide on control of stored-grain insects by World Health Organization (WHO), as well as Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It can also regulate insect growth, with a very significant effect on the regulation of silkworm growth and the increasement of cocoon production.
