Long before the spanish conquest the natives were mining and trading this precious stones.Colombian emeralds were found in places as remote as mexico and peru.I arrived in 1973 from japan with the missión of buying gems for the japanese company. At first i was struck by the lack of organizad trading procedures to acquire and export the precious stones.Emeralds had to be purchased, at risk, from peddlers in the street. The next step was to go through a lenghty process for exportation, product of the local administrative procedures.This when i decided to stay in Colombia and Stara B.B GEMSCOL LTDA, a company that would handle exclusively the trading of local emeralds aiming at all potential foreign buyers.During 28 years B.B GEMSCOL LTDA, established itself as the largest company of its type in Colombia, thanks to its PIP philosophy: professionalism, integrity, promptness.SUSUMO OTA President
