Company Description

Fred Emery founded the company in 1934. Gwen Emery, one of his daughters, joined the company in 1939. Fred Emery cc has always been a family business and shall remain so.Though initially the company was importing and exporting, in 1939, Fred, together with a staff industrial chemist, formulated Furniglos Furniture Polish based on a highly refined mineral oil.In the 1950's Gwen married and had her two sons, Ian and Roy - whereafter she returned to her duties at the company. On the passing of Fred Emery in 1954, Gwen Sholto-Douglas and her sister Bobbie secured the Furniglos formula. In 1989 Gwen's son Ian joined the staff to "learn the business" so that Gwen - after a stirling 56 years of service - was able to retire, which she did in 1995.In 1993 Ian was appointed general manager and soon after, in 1994, Ian's brother Roy also joined the company. With Gwen's example and an eye on the company's proud history and good name, Ian and Roy now run Fred Emery cc with exactly the same integrity and concern for the consumer that made the company successful.Ian, a fully trained scientist, built a new laboratory on the premises. With it, Ian soon found - despite the use of very modern techniques - that it is not possible to improve on the red Furniglos formula. In 1993, having observed the trend towards lighter woods and a need for such a product, Ian formulated Furniglos Clear Polish. The new Furniglos Clear has since proved itself in the marketplace to be a successful product which currently accounts for between 10 and 20 percent of the company's sales - which is remarkable since not a penny was spent on advertising the product. Furniglos Clear's success proved that the Furniglos Logo has a large brand following.In the future Fred Emery cc intends to develop new products.
