Filtafelt is a needle felt manufacturer with specialised finishing equipment for Polypropylene filter fabrics, as well as the most advanced calendering equipment available for finishing other fibre types. With the current mix of production Filtafelt has a total capacity of 600, 000 square metres per annum. The manufacturing plant was upgraded during May and June 2006.QUALITY ASSURANCEThe company has upgraded its existing ISO assurance quality to comply with the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Standard.FUTURE PROJECTSTo comply with evolving technology, Filtafelt (Pty) Ltd has not too distant plans to improve its manufacturing capabilities. An automatic blending and weigh pan system will be introduced to the current carding line. This will enable Filtafelt to become more adept at utilising finer Denier and Micro fibres more accurately into such intricate fabrics, that are used in the modern power station sectors worldwide.The Wumag calender machine is currently an advanced and specialised piece of equipment. Filtafelt (Pty) Ltd plans to utilise these capabilities even further by introducing an ePTFE Laminated Membrane on to the non-woven needle felt product range, also to include woven fibre glass media.Due to stringent pollution control requirements, upgrades to bag house dust extraction systems from electrostatic precipitators (ESPâs) is a prime business target for Filtafelt (Pty) Ltd. By the year 2020, due to dust emission legislations, it has been proposed that most coal fired power stations and municipal waste incinerators will need to be retrofitted to a pulse jet bag cleaning dust extraction system. This will mean a requirement in excess of 300, 000 filter bags per annum, and as a local manufacturer; Filtafelt will aim to be a part of this forthcoming global structure.As in an integral part of new technology requirements and worldwide emission requirements, Filtafelt plans to upgrade most of the current needling facility to be able to cope with these demands. The present Single Down Punch Machines are scheduled to be replaced by both Double and Quad Punch High Speed Lines, .
