The Demeter Cormack business originated from two very experienced Australasian Commodity Exporters; Will Cormack and John Glaister. They were both very successful in generating Grain Trading in the exciting new opportunities that Asia, the Indian Sub-Continent & the Middle East offered, as their economies developed and grew in the late 1980âs and the 1990âs.In November 2008, following a hiatus in operations, Demeter Cormack Pty Ltd re-emerged with a motivated and enthusiastic team lead by David Oates. David has over 35 years experience in International trade in many products and markets. Overseas visits to customers are undertaken regularly by the experienced staff of DCPL to fully understand customer needs and long term requirements.What relevance does âDemeterâ have?Demeter is a Goddess of the earth, with dominion over the fruits and riches of the fields. She is especially a goddess of the corn. She presides over the harvest and the labour that attends to it. Her symbol is an ear of corn, while her emblem is the poppy (a bright red flower that grows among the barley).Demeter is also a mother figure and is shown as being devoted to her daughter Persephone. Hers was not an obsessive but a devoted motherhood. When Persephone was abducted by Hades, Demeter stopped the cycle of the seasons so that no plant would grow, until the other Olympians were able to persuade Hades to return her daughter.
