A West Australian Geologist and avid four-wheel driver has developed an innovative alternative to traditional front-mounted electric and hand held winches.
Named Bush Winch, the lightweight, wheel mounted system retrofits to most 4WD and 2WD vehicles without any modifications and allows for both forward and backward recovery out of a bog, or over slippery surfaces.
The Bush Winch is a simple hub that attaches to a vehicles wheel rim and utilises the drive power from the wheels to wind rope attached to nominated anchor points.
The winch system comprises of two circular rim attachments (one for each side of the vehicle, so that the vehicle is pulled in a straight line) , and includes a set of specialised Bush Winch wheel nuts to replace the vehicles original set.
Inventor Patrick Verbeek said his work as a geologist over the past 30 years had taken him through the soft sands of deserts all over the world. He found that traditional electric winches were cumbersome and all too often unreliable. The Bush Winch is a lightweight alternative to electric winches weighing only 12 kilos with 50 meters of rope.
