The history of our name:

Atarneus was an ancient city in the region of Aeolis, Asia Minor. It lies on the mainland opposite the island of Lesbos, northeast of the town of Dikili in modern-day Turkey.
Atarneus flowered in the 4th century BC, when it was the seat of government of Hermias of Atarneus, ruling over the area from Atarneus to Assos. The city was deserted by inhabitants in the 1st century AD, possibly following an outbreak of an unknown epidemic.

The site is called Aterna locally. Our name Aterna is drived from this ancient civilization.

The olive category is Grand Cru Exceptional, this applies to a handful of exceptional orchards, in which the ecosystem is perfectly adapted to the olive tree. The olive oil produced from these exceptional trees are very limited and only for gourmet usage.

Aterna, the extra virgin olive oil is obtained only from our orchard thats feed by the breeze and salt from the Aegean sea. The olives are picked by hand when stil green, processed the same harvesting day by using millstones combined to a modern plant and the liquid is cold extracted to keep all the characteristics.

Low acidity is the most important factor in high quality. With 0.2% acidity, our olive oil offers you a natural delicious taste, aroma.
In organic farming picking up olives with hands is the only acceptable way of harvesting. To achieve high quality olive oil, olives are picked up by hand with care.

Gentle hand-picking prevents olives to get damaged, acidity ratio will be high in damaged olives. Also protects new sprouds of the tree from breaking. Best olive oil produced from olives that are not fully riped yet and undamaged. Olives that are splited or too much riped decreases the aroma of the oil and raises the bitterness.

Within 4 hours collected olives are crushed and ponded into a paste with the help of Stone mill. This paste is filled into bags. These bags are stacked horizontally. Oil flows spontaneously with out any impact. This is called extra virgin olive oil.
